Have your say on a community garden at Hugo Street Reserve, Redfern

The City of Sydney is working with the Redfern Community Centre to establish a community garden in Hugo Reserve, Redfern. The proposed garden would be open to the public, and provide a valuable educational resource for the community, a place to grow herbs and vegetables, and socialise and relax.

Hugo Reserve is owned by the City and is
classified as a public open space. In order to redirect the space we are
required to consult with the local community and gain Council approval.

We would like to hear your ideas for turning this important
space into a welcoming and attractive community garden.

Come along to a discussion at the Redfern
Community Centre, 29-53 Hugo Street, Redfern
on Saturday, 27 August 2011.

Please visit us
between 10.30am and 12.30pm for light refreshments and to talk to our team.

This will be an opportunity to learn more about
the proposed community garden and have your say.

The City currently has 15 community gardens run by
local residents and groups.. They are used
for growing herbs, flowers, vegetables and fruit and for conserving rare plants
and seeds.

These popular gardens provide many benefits,
including the opportunity to:

Demonstrate innovative and practical ways to reuse building
     materials

Learn how to grow your own fresh, organic food and get hands-on
     gardening experience; and

Meet other people and get involved to improve your local
     area.
