To help the public get involved in developing the strategy, Community Discussion Papers on service delivery, education and employment have been released, as has a schedule of public community meetings across NSW reports this Ministerial media release.

“The Ministerial Taskforce on Aboriginal Affairs – including seven Ministers and senior Aboriginal representatives – is determined to involve Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders in fostering great futures for Aboriginal people through improved educational and employment opportunity, and better performance by Government,” Minister Dominello said.

“Our Taskforce wants to hear directly from the Aboriginal community, Aboriginal parents, the non-government sector, corporate Australia, educators and other ‘opportunity creators’ about what’s working on the ground and how we can build on these initiatives for the benefit of Aboriginal kids.

“Our Taskforce seeks ideas that create generational change and will see more Aboriginal kids having real opportunity, real choices and real careers. That means more Aboriginal doctors, more Aboriginal accountants, more Aboriginal engineers, more Aboriginal teachers – and any other successful future that a young Aboriginal person may choose.

“With more than 35 per cent of the NSW Aboriginal population estimated to be under the age of 15, the NSW Government is determined to help today’s Aboriginal kids have great tomorrows through choice, responsibility and opportunity.[i]

“Responding to the Community Discussion Papers and participating in the planned public meetings throughout NSW gives people the chance to say how together – Government and community – we can lead and succeed in having Aboriginal aspiration overcome Aboriginal disadvantage,” Minister Dominello said.

Minister Dominello noted that the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has learned from the failure of the former Government and is committed to a genuine partnership-based approach to Aboriginal affairs.

“The best results are gained when Aboriginal communities identify the opportunities, take responsibility, develop capabilities and drive the solutions. That’s why it’s critical for there to be strong, honest and genuine partnerships with Aboriginal communities – both at the Taskforce level and in developing the strategy through consultation,” Minister Dominello said.

“Governments do not and cannot have all the answers and I encourage all interested organisations and individuals to get involved in the public consultation process through attending a meeting or making an online submission.

“Your views will certainly be welcome, respected and responded to,” Minister Dominello said.

A DA is currently on exhibition for use and fit-out to a public building for Corrective Services NSW providing community offender services. Works consist of internal and external works. External works include a new shopfront and removal of driveway to Cleveland Street, new vehicular crossing to Vine Lane, removal of roller shutter door and new to property boundary. Proposed hours of operation for public access are between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday and Friday, and between 8:00am and 8:00pm, Tuesday to Thursday. Limted 24 hour access to building for some members of staff.

The park will integrate with open space in the CUB site redevelopment, ensuring it shares the character of the area and links with key features, such as bicycle networks. The City is seeking your comments to help complete the plans. We are working with Frasers Broadway on a program to develop of the park as soon as possible, with remediation of the site expected to be complete by the end of 2008.

City staff will be available to discuss the draft concept plans for the Balfour Street Park from 6-7pm on 7 August at 64 Pine Street Chippendale.

Australian Technology Park Precinct Management Limited (ATPPM) has commissioned Godden Mackay Logan, Heritage consultants, to prepare a new Conservation Management Plan for the Australian Technology Park site.

We would like to invite you to a public information session about the Conservation Management Plan. The session will be held on site on Monday, 7 December 2009, from 4-6pm in meeting room 6A, Level 1, Bay 6 Locomotive Workshops (please enter via Bay 8).

It has been a number of years since a Conservation Management Plan was prepared for the site and previous plans have addressed the Locomotive Workshops building only. This new Conservation Management Plan would address the Australian Technology Park site as a whole, including its significant machinery, and would take into account the changes that have occurred to the site since most railway operations at Eveleigh closed in 1988.

This session provides an opportunity for stakeholders, interested parties and local community members to reflect on the significance of the former Eveleigh locomotive workshops and the changes that have occurred to the site over the past 20 years.

The information session would also provide an opportunity for stakeholders and the local community to raise issues they have regarding the site's management

As part of the CMP revision there will be a consultation about the CMP revision on 7th December 2009 between 4-6pm at the ATP. There is concern as some equipment covered previously by the 1995 CMP and and the Management Plan for Moveablew Items has been marked with large pink crosses and tagged for disposal before any consultation.
